I’m not a journalist. I don’t have a syndicated column. I’m not back by buckets of VC or advertising dollars. I’m simply a dude that likes to go on adventures to new places and try out gear. The impetus (that’s not the actual word I’m looking for, but it’s the word you’re going to get for now) for Strange Area came about because I was trying to find a domain for my gear blog. I kept searching over and over for different variations of the word “Gear” well one day I was searching and the name “StranGEARea.com” popped onto my list. I thought this was the perfect name for my gear site, because when you’re going to strange areas you’ve gotta have the best gear. Your strange area may be downtown NYC, someone else may go exploring abandonded missile siloes in North Dakota and someone else is looking for a ship wreck in the Devils Triangle. The one thing all these people have in common is a love for adventure and the need for great gear.
Many of the links on this site are affiliate links. By now you probably know the drill. When you click on a link, I may earn a small commission and the item doesn’t cost you any additional money. I then use the money I earn to pay for more gear that I may or may not NEED but definitely want to try out and review for you. Quest Outdoors is my home base, for a while I worked in their coffee shop, BaseCamp Coffee, but then because of Covid-19 it shut down. I still continue to do the SEO work for their site. But I am also building this site on my own. However any links or mentions that you see to Quest Outdoors have been placed free of charge.
